Obio/Akpor Local Government Area on Friday held its 2025 Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons at the Council Secretariat, Rumuodomaya, bringing together council officials, party leaders, staff and residents in an atmosphere of worship, thanksgiving and hope.
Hon. Dr Gift Worlu stated that Obio/Akpor is not merely a geographical expression but a people united under God, adding that with God on their side, nothing can stand in their way. He explained that the carol service was organised to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, who came to reconcile mankind to God, noting that the season calls for gratitude for life, health, livelihoods, families, communities, the local government, Rivers State, Nigeria and the world at large.
The council chairman described 2025 as a watershed year, noting that it marks a turning point from negativity to positivity. He expressed strong optimism about 2026, stressing that one with God is a majority and assuring that the coming year would be better than the outgoing year. He prayed that God would help the council and the people to do greater things in the new year, not for personal glory but to the glory of God alone, adding that the Obio/Akpor journey has just begun and would surely end in praise.
The service featured the traditional reading of the Ninth Lessons from the Holy Bible. The Fourth Lesson, taken from Isaiah chapter 11 verses 1 to 4a and 6 to 9, was read by the Head of Local Government Administration, Mr Sunny Adibe Nyeche, focusing on righteousness, peace and divine wisdom. The Seventh Lesson, from Genesis chapter 22 verses 15 to 18, was read by the Vice Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Hon. Dr Mrs. Joyce Gloria Nyeche, highlighting God’s covenant of blessings through obedience.
The Eighth Lesson, from Genesis chapter 3 verses 8 to 15, was read by Mrs Flora Gift Worlu, wife of the council chairman, recounting the fall of man and God’s promise of redemption. The Ninth Lesson, from John chapter 1 verses 1 to 7, was read by the Peoples Democratic Party Chairman in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Hon. Innocent Paddy Wali, proclaiming Christ as the Word, the Light and the source of life to mankind.
The Christmas carol featured hymns, prayers and moments of reflection, as participants expressed gratitude to God for His faithfulness throughout the year. The event ended with prayers for peace, unity and prosperity in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State and Nigeria, as attendees departed with renewed faith and hope for the year ahead.
